The Onion.com creates articles which take the events happening today and distorts what is truly happening while still sticking to the truth. It truly is amusing because of the fact that it isn't exactly what people view or think about the subject they discuss. The Onion brings to light a different, to some bizarre, and humorous perspective to the topic.

There were many great examples on the website of their satirical articles. Two personal favorites were the mocking of America's terrorist alert and Derek Jeter's hit record. The onion took the terrorist alert and somewhat mocked it in a sense. It stated that the other day we had experienced 8 seconds of terrorist free peace since September 11th. This wasn't actually the case and by mocking these supposed 8 seconds the article got the point across that in reality our country wasn't safe. After September 11th the country is on constant alert, always expecting the worst. The other comical article was discussing Derek Jeter and his hits record. The point here was that the media made his hit record seem like a huge achievement. Huge celebrations were held to commemorate it yet he was still being outdone by Harold Baines, a less than godly hitter. If Baines was not one of the best hitters it raises the question why is everyone considering Jeter one and saying this is the milestone of his career?

The onion shows us all the facts of an event taking place. By twisting it around it makes us see a different and comical side to the event . For the terrorist alert it showed the public that there really is no turning back to how things were before 9/11. As for Jeter, it showed the public that although Jeter is an above average hitter that is all he is. His record does not merit any awards and celebrations. The Onion shows perfectly how to manipulate information to prove certain points.

New York , Ny - Plaxico Burress has been sentenced today for his Gun crime around one year prior. The incident involved an illegal gun possession and the accidental shooting of himself in his thigh. The case proved that the judicial system is not prejudiced in the slightest bit. No longer are the days where superstars are shown leniancy because of who they are. Buress received the strict 20 month sentence with the harsh 2 year probation following. Many would say the sentence, which is shorter than the minimum he was facing, was much more than just a mere "slap on the wrist." Burress was truly made an example out of.
